Your Badass Talismans.

As long as I can remember, I’ve loved skulls. I keep discovering things about them that speak to me in so many different ways.

As the lead singer of various Hollywood bands in my younger days, skulls definitely meant rock and roll. Defiance, power, irreverence. Definitely what one would call Badass. As time has gone by, I’ve found the meaning of a skull to still be this, of course—who doesn’t want to celebrate pushing the envelope?!—but also to be so much more. A skull or skeleton has also become a symbol of unity and inclusiveness for me—no matter who we are or what we look like on the outside, inside we are all the same.

This also translates into my Patron Saints of Badassery—I see the skull as the face of the saint not as a mockery of Catholicism but as my way of expressing that in my world, saints, God, and religion itself has no ‘one face’. We put our own meaning and ‘face’ into and on our spirituality, I don’t believe there is one right way.

When I read the term ‘Memento Mori’ I just knew it had to be the name of my work, as this phrase literally reads ‘remember death’ in latin. This is not meant to be a depressing or morbid thought, but a reminder that all life is short and that we are meant to be living!

I love my skull pendant! Attention to detail & a meaning I can relate to makes me want to wear it all the time.Anna Harris
